Devlog 8
This past week was focused entirely on playtesting an early build of our game "Information". We gathered quite a few willing testers to play through what we had come up with so far which was an interactable play area and some icons to click on. The focus was to gain feedback on the readability of our icons and the play area itself. Since we will be having our players play on computer desktop and engaging with it like they would with a real computer, we had to make sure that the everything made sense visually and mechanically. Out of the 9 playtests we received, most of them were generally positive complementing on the visuals of the build. the major consensus was that artistically speaking; the desktop play area felt very much like a computer desktop. The icons for the internet browser and trash can icons added on to this sentiment. Despite this, it seems that our biggest drawbacks were on the icons itself. As it was, we completely overlooked "text". None of the icons in the build had a title like normal icons on a computer would and so all of our testers has to either guess what each icon was or ask us. Another issue was presented with the Blackhat and Whitehat chat icons as well; testers were unsure what they were and what they were for at first and felt as if a visual of a "floating head" as a part of the design could be improved.
With this in mind, I have already taken into account and redesigned the icons, getting rid of the floating heads altogether. Now, the chat icons are simple chat bubbles in black and white respectively. Additionally, text will be added on shortly afterwards. The readability of these icons will be tested in a future playtest.
