Pitch Presentation

This week,  we were all tasked with coming up with a pitch for a game idea based on our research topic; for me, my topic is Doomscrolling. Coming up with an idea was a mixed bag of emotions for me because I found it both exciting to conjure up a concept but quite difficult to narrow down my topic. My main problem with this was trying to think of an idea that was not "in your face" about its message/topic. At first, all of my ideas felt a lot like an episode of Barney where the moral of the episodes story is laid bare to the audience.  Eventually, I came up with an idea of a side scrolling game where the message is given to the player through story and context clues such as state state of the environment around them or from the design of the enemies themselves. creating the actual presentation itself was the easy part.

Luckily, thanks to my current job as a phone sales rep, I found presenting and talking to a wide audience pretty familiar.  Talking about my game idea did have a few hiccups here and there but thankfully I was able to get through it relatively quickly.  The only thing I wish I did more of for my presentation was focus on how does my game reflect my topic and message. From the feedback I gained, I realized that with how I planned it, the messages execution was paper thin and required more explanation on my part. Despite this obstacle, I was given the opportunity to reflect on my own mishap and learn from it. While, my idea may be something that I completely understand, I need to consider the people that I will be presenting too, and so, I will be ensuring that my ideas are understood by all.
